Katy Perry is running "Hot N Cold".

The new hit from the "I Kissed a Girl" sensation, "Hot N Cold," features Perry in a video that contrasts a lush wedding scene -- with Perry up on the altar and her parents in the congregation -- with examples of the vampy-chick persona, such as shoving around her lover in an alley, the singer played in the "I Kissed a Girl" video.

In real life, Perry has had to navigate opposite ends of the musical spectrum as well. The 24-year-old began her career as a teenage Christian music singer under the name Katy Hudson, but when that attempt fizzled, she reinvented herself as Katy Perry, using her mother's maiden name and slicker dance-pop grooves.

The result: a No. 1 single with "I Kissed a Girl", a bit of protest from conservative groups (and, rumor has it, her religious parents) and the possibility of being nominated for a Grammy as best new artist when the nominations are announced Wednesday night.

CNN's Denise Quan talked to Perry about her recent success, her hit single and dodging the paparazzi. The following is an edited version of that interview.

Katy Perry isn't the first young female singer to copy Madonna ...but she's the most successful.

At least when it comes to controversy. Her summer hit, "I Kissed A Girl", became the new "Like A Virgin", infuriating stuffed shirts with its lesbian sentiments.

Her album, "One Of The Boys", also featured a song called "Ur So Gay" which was slammed for alleged homophobia.

And she was roundly criticised for glamorising knives when she posed with a three-inch blade on the day a 16-year old was stabbed to death.

Trouble seems to follows the 24-year old, just like it did with Madonna when she started her career in the Eighties.

Kid Rock made sure MTV EMAs host Katy Perry had a night to remember at the event earlier this month (Nov08) - after he got her intoxicated on shots throughout her presenting duties.

The sexy singer thrilled the crowds at the awards bash in Liverpool, England - changing costumes 12 times and flying through the air on a huge plastic banana.

And the partygirl star maintained her wild antics behind the scenes - knocking back booze with the All Summer Long rocker.

He tells Britain's Daily Star newspaper, "I got Katy drunk in Liverpool at the MTV awards; she's a nice girl. I thought she was British but she's from California.

"We were just shooting the s**t and I guess we overdid it."

And Kid Rock has plans for his gay pal Sir Elton John to cover Perry's breakout anthem I Kissed A Girl.

He adds, "I will pitch it to him. But I need to buy him a Christmas present first, something really dirty."

Katy Perry has a girl crush on Natalie Portman.

The singer - who is currently dating Gym Class Heroes frontman Travis McCoy - recently revealed that her smash hit single I Kissed a Girl was inspired by actress Scarlett Johansson.

But the star insists she is most-attracted to The Other Boleyn Girl star Portman.

She says, "Scarlett Johansson is a beautiful woman as everybody in the world probably agrees and the I Kissed a Girl song is inspired by all beautiful women and the power they release in their beauty.

"So I was just using her in an interview as an example and then it turned into this big headline. I was like 'Well, I really like Natalie Portman too."

Adidas is having a house party with stars including Katy Perry, David Beckham and Method Man as part of a global ad campaign to mark the 60th anniversary of its three stripes mark and promote its retro Originals range.

The ad, created by Montreal-based Sid Lee, breaks this week in the US and will be rolled out across the UK, Europe and the rest of the world in the new year.

A host of music and sports stars including Beckham, Perry, Missy Elliott, the Ting Tings and former Romanian tennis player Ilie Nastase are shown dancing to a remix of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons' 'Beggin' by DJ Pilooski while wearing Adidas Originals shoes, shirts, jeans and jackets.

A two-minute version of the ad, which carries the strapline "Celebrate originality", will appear on the Adidas Originals website while 60 second and 30 second versions will run on TV.

It is the first time Adidas has created a TV ad for its Originals brand, which uses the famous Trefoil logo.

The campaign will also include cinema, digital, print and retail events, which will launch throughout 2009.

Adidas appointed Sid Lee as the lead creative agency for its Adidas Originals in July, following a review involving incumbent 180 Amsterdam.

She's sung her biggest hit while straddling a giant cherry chapstick and dressed as an NFL player rising through a Merseyside stage in front of an audience of millions.

Katy Perry has said that people should not take her lyrics seriously.

The 'I Kissed A Girl' singer claimed that her songs are simply "exaggerated" versions of events that have happened in her life.

"My songs are just a snapshot of everything I’m going through," she told Grazia.

"Maybe they're a little exaggerated for the sake of telling a really good story. It's not an agenda, I'm not turning the whole world bisexual."

Perry added that her mum and dad, who are both pastors, have not disowned her over the racy subject matter of some of her songs.

"They're my parents and they love me. They know that I'm a bit sassy, but I've always been that way," she said.

The 'I Kissed A Girl' singer has slammed suggestions she is controversial solely to attract attention, and insists her lyrics are racy because she is a naturally sexual person.

She said: "Some people are dying to be offended by anything. To me, it's not anything besides tongue-in-cheek. But I don't always want to be controversial. I'll always be provocative, but that's different.
